If you are getting ready to move, you will want to pack up all of your belongings before your actual moving day arrives.

1. Start by Decluttering

Before you start packing, you need to declutter. Don't underestimate the time that it takes to declutter things. You will want to go through each room and sort things into trash, donate, and pack piles. This will allow you to see what you should keep and what can be tossed out. Doing this allows you to significantly cut down on what you actually have to pack up for your move.

2. Get Your Supplies Together

Second, you are going to want to get your supplies together. Make sure you have all of your trash bags, packing tape, boxes, markers, and labels ready to go. You will also need padding, such as bubble wrap, packing paper, old towels, and packing peanuts. Having all of your supplies ready to go will allow you to keep packing once you get a start so you can keep your momentum going.

3. Color Code Everything

Third, as you pack, consider color-coding everything. Use the same color labels for everything in the same room or use the same stage marker. That way, when you move your boxes to the new house, it will be easy to identify what room the boxes should go into. You can even put up color-coded signs in your new home and ask your movers to put the boxes that correspond with that color into that room so that way you don't have to move the boxes around to unpack. You can just unpack the boxes in the right room as soon as the move has finished.

4. Go Room by Room

Fourth, it is often easiest to pack when you tackle one room at a time. Choose a room that you use the least or an area of your home, and pack that up. For example, start by packing up your storage closet, or start by packing up the space room, and then move on to the next space. You can pack everything up in each room but the essentials, and you can create and label boxes for essentials that you need to pack up at the last minute, such as bedding. that way, you can just throw the items into the box on your last packing day.

However, if you don't want to pack everything up on your own, contact your movers to pack things up for you. Packing up can be a lot of work, and it is good to get a little assistance with the packing process. To learn more, contact a company like Christofferson Moving & Storage.
